Blogger’s Block: A Look Back To Pulau Ubin

Day 26

Just like Major League Baseball’s Alex Rodriguez, I find myself awaiting a verdict this week. Unlike Alex, I hope my verdict will allow me to re-enter the workforce here in Singapore.  While my mind is more focused on what is to come I have decided to post an email I sent to friends back on Day 26. Please note that this email was intended for entertainment purposes and may stretch the truth of what actually took place.  Enjoy!
As another day comes to an end here in Singapore I can only think of the phrase “Another day another dollar” or more appropriate in my case “another day more dollars gone”… Adios, Ma’a ElSalama, Shalom, zài jiàn, selamat tinggal… You get the picture!

I have applied for 97 jobs since arriving in Singapore. In the beginning it was like a bowl of alphabet soup with my applications for positions such as… CEO, COO, CFO…. What do they mean anyway?  Obviously, my inexistent effort into researching these positions got me no follow ups (well except for 2 automated denial emails [Delta and Amex] and having my account terminated from the website www.regionup.com).  Since then I have slowly lowered my standards to such job titles of Customer Service Executive, Logistics Coordinator, Etc. Still no follow ups.

As the days grow longer (another lie… they all stay pretty much the same here) I get more antsy to get back into the workforce!  I even resorted to mounting a metal device with 2 circular tires (bicycle) in my boredom.  Or maybe it was the lack of alcohol consumption. I am not really sure.

I know some of you counted me out by this point.  I believe day 26 was even an estimated exit date.  But, as this day comes to an end for me I look into the future and think of the line from the song “Coming Home” by Diddy.  The lines goes “another day another dawn”!  I’m not done yet!.  Day 27 here I come!
Yes, I did go bicycling.  A few days before this email was written I took a trip to Pulau Ubin, which is a small island located in the north east of Singapore.  Pulau Ubin is one of the few areas in Singapore that is largely free from urban development.  There are several bicycle and hiking trails to be enjoyed here.  Also the occasional wild boar.  Check out the pics below!
